As the Platform began to develop, the main initial focus was to create common ground amongst the various partners. They represent different interests, countries, and situations. A lot of effort went to go beyond the obvious first question – from farmers to slaughterhouses: what is in it for me? This multi-stakeholder approach is a unique feature of the Platform and adds to the credibility and legitimacy of the final outcome.
The kick-off phase included setting up a management structure; agreeing on the project organisation; bringing cluster group experts together and making clusters to work; defining consecutive steps of the project process.
Two initial decisions and choices have been relevant for further proceedings:
- Only mainstream production systems are covered, and all systems will be examined from primary breeding through to slaughter.
- Each production chain is mapped in order to get a detailed view of all aspects of the production flow.
